Most Valuable Players: Top 10 Players & Celebrities Involved in Activism
As of last week, many athletes and celebrities have joined Colin Kaepernick’s nonviolent protest. The Take A Knee protest, started because of the ongoing brutality towards African Americans. The protest started with the NFL player Colin Kaepernick a couple months back but, after being referred to as “sons of bitches” by the President of the United States, other players have united with Kaepernick.
- Ray Lewis.
The Baltimore Ravens’ Linebacker dragged Colin Kaepernick through the mud when he first protested against police brutality. He said he would never disrespect the flag or the anthem because it meant so much to him. When he saw other players in the NFL join the nonviolent protest he decided to join, but he claims he wasn’t protesting; He was praying. Boy bye!
- NFL Players
Any NFL player that has now found the courage to take the knee, we commend you. However, this protest started with one of you. You all kept quiet as Colin Kaepernick was disrespected and you watched him lose his job.
- LeSean McCoy
Even though, LeSean is a couple months late with the protesting; watching him stretch during the anthem gained him some brownie points.
- JCSU Volleyball Team
Johnson C. Smith University’s female Volleyball team tweeted a picture illustrating their solidarity. It’s encouraging to see that young ladies are aware of current issues and are actively trying to raise awareness.
- Rep. Sheila Anderson (D-TX)
Texas’ Representative, Sheila Anderson, knelt down to defend the NFL players that were insulted by President Donald Trump. She states “There is no basis in the First Amendment that says that you cannot kneel on the national anthem or in front of the flag.”
5. Stevie Wonder & Kwame Morris
Stevie Wonder and his son Kwame Morris, took the protest to the stage of the 2017 Global Citizen Festival. His actions were also followed up by ignorant statements implying those that are wealthy are not oppressed enough to have opinions on social injustice of black people.
4. LeBron James
LeBron James tweeted a response to President Trump’s tweet pertaining to Stephen Curry’s remark about not attending the White House visit. He tweeted “U bum @StephenCurry30 already said he ain’t going! So therefore ain’t no invite. Going to White House was a great honour until you showed up!”
3. Stephen Curry
Stephen Curry recently made a statement that he would not be following the Warriors to the White House. President Trump responded to Curry’s statement and disinvited him. Trump had so much to say about athletes and even called them “sons of bitches” but had little to nothing to say about white supremacist.
2. WNBA
The Women’s NBA team have stood by Kaepernick’s actions from the day he made them. They didn’t seek attention from it. They unified with the NFL player before taking the knee became a ‘trend’.
1. Colin Kaepernick
Colin Kaepernick was the NFL player that took the first stand and protested against the mistreatment of blacks in America. He was laughed at by other players and his actions were belittled because of his status. He still has not been drafted because of his actions but he continued to do what he felt was right. Kaepernick and others have clearly stated that they are not disrespecting the flag but drawing awareness to what is going on. Kaepernick, you’re doing amazing sweetie!
